Carolyn Borton
Author, Software Architect, Entrepreneur
Carolyn R. Borton is a successful entrepreneur with a passion for educational software. Her passion for educational software springs from a love for the benefits it provides: almost-dropout high school students catching up and applying for college in less than a year, small businesses forming deep and lasting connections with their customers, private schools partnering with parents to provide every kid a 5-star educational experience. Her company, Sunshine Learning Systems, specializes in creating engaging educational applications for private schools and small businesses.
Carolyn started designing and coding her own applications when she was 14 and several of her creations have won national awards. Carolyn got her start in educational software in 2000 as a lead software architect for PLATO Learning to pioneer their expansion into web-delivered immersive learning. She also created interactive science modules for Pearson, and partnered with schools and school districts to produce customized learning programs. Carolyn designed and built applications for the United States Department of Education, World Bank, USAID, World Wildlife Fund, Land O’ Lakes Foods, St. Jude Medical, and a variety of small businesses.
Carolyn currently resides in Land O’ Lakes, Florida where she enjoys the company of her loving husband, Jason, energetic son, Benjamin, and their two dogs, Franklin and Penny. Her hobbies include reading science fiction and fantasy novels, and studying Krav Maga with Ben (see photo). She likes to relax on cruise vacations.
As a business owner, Carolyn delights in supporting other business owners to get control of their software, so it no longer controls them. Carolyn’s favorite success principle is Constant and Never-Ending Improvement.
Carolyn’s personal mission is: Exceptional Software, Revolutionizing Education.
